(Mention honorable)
With a sensitivity close to the surface and a touch of humor to defy hardship, folly, and the absurd, Luc Nadeau is a printmaker whose work draws inspiration from moments of love as well as tragedy. His art, much like the artist himself, is built on contrasts—entirely shaped by chiaroscuro. Both dark and luminous, in subject matter as in execution, his work reveals a constant dialogue between shadow and light.
Trained at the Atelier libre de recherches graphiques in Montréal, he is both an engraver and a master printer. He honed his craft under the guidance of renowned printmakers whose works he printed, including Richard Lacroix, Kittie Bruneau, Louis-Pierre Bougie, Robert Savoie, Francine Simonin, and Ghitta Caiserman, among others.
Luc Nadeau spent nearly twenty years refining his art and developing his techniques while printing for some of the most respected figures in contemporary printmaking. His solo career began almost by accident. At the time, the artisan sought to push the boundaries of his practice by experimenting with new printing techniques that none of the artists he worked with had yet requested.
As his first proofs were drying beside him, a gallerist happened upon them. Dazzled by the results, she immediately offered to exhibit the works. They quickly sold out. An artist was born.
He soon established himself in the field. His works have been exhibited in Montreal and Baie-Saint-Paul. He has participated in several printmaking biennials in France, Spain, and Vancouver, where he received an Honourable Mention.
